Well its been awhile since I posted, simply because I still cant solidly post anything and mention too much yet from the past 2 features ive been on, BUT my Gold Plaque arrived today from Australia thanks to for the pickup and transit from ACS Headquarters in Sydney. A big thank you to and Mohsen Sarafi for trusting me on this project. A big hands down the master of mood my friend and gaffer who also came to Iran and endured a crazy action movie adventure. To my Iranian crew, i wish you the best of safety in these crazy times of the world. This one goes Straight to the pool room!nsw

3 months back home in Australia now coming to an end. Im sure going to miss all these skies. Time to head back to UAE after a small stint in Europe.

With Pawel Achtel ACS .achtel and his mind blowing innovative Camera the Achtel 9x7. Ive seen this camera only online past years but to have the man himself break it down and explain the science was a unique and fortunate experience to have. Its definitely not a camera you would film your next narrative with, but the way this thing handles color and metadata blows most things out of the water.

18k Resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio
16-bit RAW unprocessed direct from the sensor to the drive
11gb/second data rates

Its been a creamy year this year and too busy to post. My entire year so far has been on these Cooke Full Frame Special Flare x1.8 Anamorphics for a feature i cant name right now, block 1 now wrapped and block 2 to commence later this year. Special cheers to our focus pullers .murad1 and nailing it on these. I try to keep things at T4-5.6 but the fall off and depth of field on these things is a whole other planet. Im now back home in Sydney for a few months while we are on a break so keen to catch up with everyone.

Teaser is out! Making History, first ever western crew making an action film in Iran with western techniques of filming. Now selected at Fajr Film Festival and soon onto the circuit round the world. What a crazy Indie project this was! Filmed in Finland and Iran in and out of covid. The stunts are real! Cant wait till its polished off, we will be the first in history to set a benchmark for what Iran really looks like through our eyes. Coming Soon!

Gun Safety RIP Halyna Hutchins

After the tragic news yesterday of Halyna Hutchins fatal accident on set, I cant express the importance of Gun Safety and the amount of checks done before a shot is even taken. As a Cinematographer and operator I have been at point blank range of firing weapons in the trust of of the Gun smith and safety officers hired to be on set. After the tragedies of Jon Erik Hexum and Brandon Lee, things like this shouldn't happen.

This sequence is from a movie in 2015/2016 I was fortunate to shoot in New Zealand and USA with some great talent from Stargate. One being the late Cliff Simon RIP. This sequence had the guns firing take after take, some takes within 2 meters of my face when operating. The pistols were using cardboard cartridges which would disintegrate after the primer was struck. Despite the cardboards safety measures of disintegrating, even the smallest particles of cardboard which left the chamber were enough to sting and bruise my fists around the camera rigs handles. Its so important that every aspect or danger is taken into risk assessment, elimination and/or substitution. Rest in Peace Halyna, we have lost a talent.
