One of the most unforgettable moments of my life and my career as a tattoo artist was tattooing my 17-year-old son, Duke for the very first time. It happened when I flew back to the Philippines for vacation, a very meaningful stop during my Asian World Tattoo Tour. Holding the machine in my hand while he sat in front of me was an entirely different experience. I’ve tattooed countless people across the world, witnessed pain, courage and endurance, but seeing my own son endure that pain was something else entirely. Every line I etched into his skin carried not just ink, but love, responsibility and a silent prayer.
As a father, it hurt me deeply to see him wince, to know that I was the one causing that pain. Yet at the same time, there was pride, pride in his strength, his trust in me and the bond we shared in that moment. That session was more than just a tattoo; it was a rite of passage, a memory forever carved into both his skin and my heart.
