How perfect is Google's doodle tribute to iconic German designer/architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe? Today marks his 126th birth anniversary :) Mies (pronounced 'Mees'... you're welcome), was loved for his simple design style, emphasizing structural beams that make up the strikingly beautiful buildings he dreamt up. A great influence on the world of design - he said "God is in the details", and designed chairs you have most definitely seen/sat on at some point in your life - Mies will always be remembered as a pioneer in modern architecture.

Although I'm a little hurt Takashi Murakami chose Doha, and not Dubai, to make his Middle East debut in, I do understand why... Doha's art culture and its museums are absolutely stunning, and of an international standard, unlike Dubai's offerings. Surprising, I know, but take it from someone who's had the pleasure of visiting Doha just months ago: it's true!

Fantastically whimsical show of work by Murakami, including a larger than life sculpture of himself - all part of the aptly titled exhibit, 'Ego'.

the interactive installation features circus tents, indoor cinemas, paintings, multimedia displays and statues, including a six metre high inflatable self-portrait of the artist himself appearing as a character in his own typically supernatural world.
