Sickle Cell Anaemia
Sickle Cell Anaemia is an inherited blood disorder where the red blood cells become shaped like a sickle or crescent instead of being round and flexible. These abnormal cells can block blood flow and break down easily, leading to pain and other health problems.
Common Symptoms
Frequent pain crises
Tiredness and weakness
Pale skin
Yellowing of the eyes (jaundice)
Swelling of hands and feet
Frequent infections
Delayed growth in children
What Causes It?
Sickle cell anaemia is caused by inheriting abnormal haemoglobin genes from both parents.
If both parents carry the sickle cell trait, there is a chance their child may have the condition.

Acute chest syndrome
Delayed puberty
How It Is Managed
